In Dec 2015, SMI signed a joint venture with Senko, a major logistics group listed on the Japanese Stock Exchange, to provide logistics and warehousing services in Myanmar. In Oct 2016, the joint venture opened its first state-of-the-art warehouse (approx.3,400 sqm) in Yangon’s Insein township, inclusive of dry, cold and cool storage facilities. The warehouse business has got off to a promising start and customers’ reaction to the provision of first class cold and cool storage facilities have been excellent. As a result, the business is operating at close to 100% of its capacity and there are plans for a major expansion of the existing facility in FY2019.
Supported by state-of -the -art Japanese technology, the vision for this business is a network of warehouses across Myanmar in key locations providing international standard logistics including trucking and other transport related services.
Customers have been positive and highly receptive to the provision of our first-class cold, cool and dry storage solutions and the business is operating at close to maximum capacity. Plans are being drawn up for a major expansion at its current location I FY2020.
