Telecom Infrastructure

SMI and Golden Infrastructure Group (GIG) have formed a joint-venture, Myanmar Infrastructure Group (MIG), to capitalise on the opportunities arising in Myanmar's tower infrastructure market. MIG’s aim is to become an owner and operator of telecommunication infrastructure, including towers, rooftop sites and in-building wireless networks. MIG’s strategy is to provide services to telecom operators, tower companies, service providers, equipment companies, and telecom service users.

As a major step towards achieving business goals, MIG has entered into a construction and lease agreement with mobile network operator Ooredoo Myanmar Limited, to construct 503 telecommunication towers across Myanmar. Construction has started in July 2015 and build out has reached almost 100 towers till date.

In June 2016, MIG entered into lease agreements with mobile network operators Telenor Myanmar Limited and MPT, by which both operators gained the rights to co-lease on MIG's telecom towers.
